Londoners will finally find out Brexit's full impact on its economy and society as the London Assembly's Economic Committee explore the future of London outside the EU.

The London Assembly Economy Committee meets today to discuss the capital's future in a post-Brexit Britain.

A number of experts will speak about investment, productivity and output in a post-Brexit London and what actions the city needs to take to prepare.

Migration is also major focus on the meeting as currently EU citizens can travel to the UK exercising their Freedom of Movement of Persons.

Compared to the rest of UK, London's work place is far more diverse.

40% of jobs in London are held by people born outside of the UK.; among those, 35% are held by workers from the European Economic Area (EEA).

If visa and travel requirements change, it could have huge impact on the nearly one million EU national residents in London.

Moreover, changes to immigration policy could present significant challenges for parts of the London economy.

Currently, the Government’s UK proposed immigration policy is to create a ‘skills-based immigration system’.

As part of this policy, a salary threshold of £30,000 would be implemented for migrants seeking to enter the UK for work which adds extra hurdles for EU nationals compare to the policies before.

The committee is chaired by Leonie Copper, a British Labour and Co-operative Party politician.

She described the initiative of the meeting to CityNews: “The London Assembly Economy Committee investigates economic issues which have a direct impact on Londoners. Brexit is one of those issues."
